SEND Teaching Assistant – Special Educational Needs

About the role

This full‑time position supports a specialist school in South Tyneside, providing one‑to‑one and group assistance to pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, including autism. The role runs Monday to Friday, 8:30‑15:30, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑to‑one and small‑group support to students with SEND.
• Adapt and modify learning materials to suit individual needs.
• Assist students with social, emotional and behavioural development.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and support staff to implement individual learning plans.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents.
• Help manage the classroom environment to ensure safety and engagement.
• Promote inclusion, equality and respect for diversity throughout the school.

Required profile

• Cache Level 3 qualification (or equivalent).
• Previous experience working with children in an educational setting.
• Demonstrated experience supporting pupils with SEND, especially autism, ADHD or learning disabilities.
• Valid Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or in progress.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Positive, professional attitude towards inclusive education.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SEND legislation and best practices.
• Ability to adapt learning resources for diverse needs.
