SEND Teaching Assistant – Start September 2026

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to join an outstanding SEN school in Darlington starting September 2026. The role involves supporting pupils aged 2‑19 with a range of special educational needs, both one‑to‑one and in small groups.

Key responsibilities

• Provide personalised support to pupils with ASD, ADHD, PMLD, MLD, SEMH and other SEND profiles.
• Assist with personal care and communication needs, including for non‑verbal pupils.
• Work closely with class teachers to understand individual learning styles and adapt support accordingly.
• Manage challenging behaviour and promote a positive learning environment.

Required profile

• Relevant childcare or teaching qualification (desired).
• Experience working with children in UK schools.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Resilient, proactive and positive attitude.
• Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
• Two professional references covering the last two years.

Required skills

What we offer

• Daily rate of £88‑115 (equivalent to £21,600‑£28,800 per year).
