SEND Teaching Assistant – Support Learners with Additional Needs

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support learners with additional needs in further education settings across Croydon and other locations in South East England. The role involves providing personalised assistance to students with mild to moderate learning difficulties and challenging behaviours, helping them achieve their full potential.

Key responsibilities

• Support learners with reading, scribing, wellbeing, encouragement and motivation.
• Assist in creating, monitoring and reviewing SMART goals to track progress.
• Promote learner engagement, confidence and independence both inside and outside the classroom.
• Provide tailored support based on individual needs, including use of communication aids.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting SEND learners or managing challenging behaviours, including profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).
• Compassionate, patient and resilient approach to education support.
• Ability to work flexibly across part‑time or full‑time schedules (3‑5 days per week).

Required skills

• Familiarity with British Sign Language (BSL).
• Knowledge of Makaton communication system.
