SEND Teaching Assistant – Support Young Learners

About the role

Join a specialist school in Wigan as a SEND Teaching Assistant, supporting pupils aged 11‑19 with social, emotional and mental health needs. You will work full‑time, Monday to Friday, helping students overcome barriers to learning and develop independence.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and group support to students with SEND during lessons and throughout the school day.
• Build trusting relationships that encourage engagement, confidence and emotional regulation.
• Collaborate with teachers to deliver personalised learning and targeted interventions.
• Apply positive behaviour management strategies to support emotional wellbeing.
• Promote independence, resilience and personal development.
• Liaise with teaching staff and external professionals to meet individual pupil needs.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH or challenging behaviour.
• Calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
• Team Teach training desirable but not essential.
