SEND/SEMH Primary Teaching Assistant (Full‑time Temporary)

About the role
We are looking for a compassionate Teaching Assistant to support primary pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This full‑time temporary position offers the chance to make a real difference in a supportive school environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEND or SEMH needs.
- Implement personalised learning and behaviour strategies for children with autism, ADHD, speech and language, sensory and behavioural challenges.
- Use positive reinforcement and de‑escalation techniques to support emotional regulation.
- Adapt classroom activities to meet individual learning requirements.
- Promote independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, SENDCOs and external professionals.
Required profile
- Previous experience supporting children with SEND or SEMH in schools, care settings or youth work.
- A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
- Strong communication and behaviour management abilities.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who have faced learning barriers.
- Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children.
Required skills
- Effective communication.

- Knowledge of SEND and SEMH support strategies.
