Senior Accountant (ACA/ACCA) – Leadership Role

About the role

Acorn by Synergie is seeking an experienced ACA or ACCA qualified accountant to join a well‑established practice in Newton Abbot. This senior position offers genuine leadership responsibility, client portfolio management and a clear pathway towards partnership.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Review accounts, tax returns, VAT returns and ensure timely partner sign‑off.
• Provide expert advice on income tax, corporate tax, capital gains tax and broader accountancy matters.
• Lead client meetings and act as a trusted business advisor.
• Oversee billing, budgeting, fee reviews and commercial performance.
• Delegate workflow, support the accounts team and mentor junior staff.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory updates and best practice.
• Contribute to business development and practice growth.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualification.
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualified experience in an accountancy practice.
• Strong background in accounts preparation, financial reporting and corporate tax.
• Proven leadership and people‑management experience.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
