Senior Accountant – Accountancy Practice

About the role

Heelan Associates Ltd is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join a modern, growing accountancy practice in Waterlooville. You will work with a diverse portfolio of owner‑managed businesses, delivering high‑quality client service while leading and developing a team of accountants.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, send and submit accounts and tax returns for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Provide training, mentorship and technical guidance to the accounting team.
• Check and review accounting and taxation work produced by the team, offering constructive feedback.
• Communicate with clients via phone, email, social media and in‑person, including record collection.
• Onboard new clients, handling initial bookkeeping and compliance handovers.
• Assess and advise clients on tax efficiency and planning opportunities.
• Review advisory areas such as cash flow, budgets and pricing.
• Complete bookkeeping, VAT returns and CIS where required.
• Prepare and deliver year‑end client meetings and fee reviews.
• Maintain electronic filing of books, records and client administration.
• Liaise with HMRC and Companies House to resolve queries and ensure statutory compliance.
• Manage ongoing professional development and CPD requirements.

Required profile

• Full membership of a chartered professional body (AAT, ATT, ACCA or equivalent).
• Extensive practice experience overseeing a broad client base.
• Strong experience preparing, reviewing and checking accounts and tax returns for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Proficiency with accounting software such as Xero and QuickBooks.
