Senior Accounts Assistant

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accounts Assistant to lead our bookkeeping team within a fast‑growing independent practice. Based in a scenic barn conversion in Kingswinford, the role offers a balanced schedule with early Friday finishes and a focus on delivering high‑quality accounting services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and monitor daily workloads and prioritisation of junior accounts assistants and bookkeepers.
• Oversee the preparation of quarterly VAT returns, ensuring absolute accuracy.
• Handle complex client compliance matters, including VAT registrations and deregistrations.
• Prepare and review quarterly management accounts and year‑end records for partner review.
• Assist with the preparation and filing of personal tax returns (Self‑Assessments) for individuals, sole traders and directors.
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, resolving queries and delivering exceptional service.
• Support the wider team, maintain high professional standards and ensure all external deadlines are met.

Required profile

• Minimum 3‑5 years of dedicated experience within a UK public accountancy practice.
• Prior experience supervising or leading a team of junior accountants.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently with initiative.
• Excellent organisational skills to monitor workflows and meet deadlines.
• Effective communication skills for client interaction.
