Senior Accounts Assistant

About the role

Acorn by Synergie is seeking a Senior Accounts Assistant to join its established accountancy practice in Okehampton. The role offers the chance to work with a varied client portfolio across multiple sectors, delivering high‑quality accounting and tax services while developing technical expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare statutory accounts for a wide range of businesses and organisations.
• Assist with personal and corporate tax compliance and submit VAT returns.
• Carry out bookkeeping assignments and maintain accurate financial records.
• Provide day‑to‑day accounting support and professional advice to clients.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and ensure work is completed accurately and on time.

Required profile

• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.
• AAT Level 4 qualification or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience preparing statutory accounts and tax returns.
• Strong analytical, organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Professional communication skills with a client‑focused approach.

Required skills

• Proficiency with cloud‑based accounting software such as Xero or QuickBooks.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
