Senior Associate / Lead – Large Loss (Complex Injury)

About the role

Keoghs LLP is seeking an ambitious Senior Associate / Lead Lawyer to join its Complex Injury team in Birmingham. This senior position combines technical legal expertise with people leadership, allowing you to shape a high‑performing team while managing a portfolio of high‑value claims.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop a team of complex injury solicitors (initially two direct reports).
• Manage a caseload of complex injury claims, primarily road‑traffic accidents with exposure to employer’s liability and public liability.
• Handle large loss cases ranging from £250,000 to over £1 million, supported by a Technical Director.
• Advise clients on indemnity, liability, quantum and overall claims strategy.
• Build and maintain relationships with key insurance clients and senior claims handlers.
• Deliver internal and client‑focused training, and represent the firm at court hearings, trials and settlement conferences.
• Drive team performance through objective setting, regular reviews and development plans.
• Support recruitment, team expansion and ensure compliance with SRA regulations.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with strong defendant road‑traffic accident experience.
• Proven track record handling high‑value complex injury claims (£250k‑£1m+).
• Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and develop a legal team.
• Excellent communication, analytical and decision‑making skills.
• Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to business development.

Required skills

• Defendant RTA litigation expertise.
• Advocacy experience in court hearings and trials.
• Client relationship management.
