Senior / Associate Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) is expanding its MEP design team and seeks a proactive Senior or Associate Mechanical Engineer to deliver mechanical building services design and verification across a wide range of schemes. You will work closely with junior and senior engineers, multidisciplinary colleagues, and clients to produce robust, coordinated, and compliant design solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in day‑to‑day management of junior and senior engineers and support their career progression.
• Undertake mechanical engineering design for heating, ventilation, cooling, domestic water systems and develop specifications for specialists such as BMS.
• Prepare and check calculations, drawings and specifications for concept, developed and technical design stages.
• Coordinate mechanical services with architectural, structural, electrical and sustainability disciplines.
• Work closely with project leads, surveyors, quantity surveyors and project managers to ensure technical compliance and quality assurance.
• Support the development of design packages for tender and construction, responding to contractor queries.
• Use design tools such as IES, AutoCAD and Revit to produce coordinated outputs.
• Carry out site surveys, provide construction monitoring and periodic clerk‑of‑works duties.

Required profile

• Experience managing a team of engineers to deliver quality service.
• Proven track record delivering mechanical designs within a consultancy or design‑and‑build environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guides and industry standards.
• Degree‑qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering, ideally working towards CIBSE or IMechE registration.
• Organised, detail‑oriented and able to manage multiple deadlines.
• Collaborative approach with a willingness to learn from senior team members.
