Senior Authorised Person – Electrical

About the role

The Senior Authorised Person – Electrical will lead the implementation and operation of safe electrical systems across Southern Water’s high‑voltage assets in Sussex. You will ensure risks are controlled, support operational managers, and work closely with the health & safety team to resolve safety incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the safe maintenance and operation of high‑voltage electrical systems.
• Act as the escalation point for technical queries from a team of ~40 Authorised Persons and the Asset Maintenance Engineering team.
• Provide advice and guidance on electrical safety, legislation and best practice.
• Support the setup and installation of new equipment across a wide geographic area.
• Assist operational managers with recruitment and help the H&S team investigate safety‑related issues.
• Drive technical and legislative improvements throughout the business.

Required profile

• Full, clean UK manual driving licence.
• Engineering qualification to at least HNC level in an electrical discipline, with supporting certificates.
• Extensive experience in maintenance‑operations environments, covering both mechanical and electrical systems.
• Strong ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

Required skills

• Electrical safety and high‑voltage system expertise.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Act (HASAWA) and PUWER regulations.
• Technical problem‑solving and advisory skills in electrical engineering.
