Senior Authorised Person (SAP) – HV/LV Electrical Networks

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to join a specialist high‑voltage electrical engineering firm in the North West. You will be responsible for the safe control, operation and management of HV and LV networks up to 33 kV, supporting maintenance, commissioning and operational activities on critical infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out HV/LV switching and isolation activities up to 33 kV.
• Issue safety documentation, including Sanction for Test.
• Manage on‑site teams of jointers, fitters and subcontractors.
• Perform commissioning, pre‑energisation checks, relay testing and fault finding on HV switchgear and related infrastructure.
• Liaise with DNOs and iDNOs for planned outages and new grid connections.
• Ensure all work complies with Distribution Safety Rules and industry best practice.

Required profile

• Current Senior Authorised Person (SAP) authorisation under formal Distribution Safety Rules.
• HNC, ONC, recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in an electrical contracting or DNO environment.
• At least 2 years operating as a Senior Authorised Person.

Required skills

• HV/LV switching up to 33 kV.
• Commissioning of high‑voltage systems.
• Relay testing.
• Fault finding on HV switchgear.
• Understanding of distribution networks, switchgear and protection systems.
