Senior Azure Data Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Azure Data Engineer to join a six‑month contract delivering enterprise‑grade data platforms across Azure, SQL Server and Snowflake. You will lead data onboarding, migration and automation initiatives, enabling self‑service analytics and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build robust data ingestion, transformation and migration pipelines using Azure Data Factory.
• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT processes across Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL, SQL Server and Snowflake.
• Create reusable automation frameworks for schema deployment, validation and data onboarding using SQL, Python or PowerShell.
• Administer SQL Server environments on Azure Virtual Machines, handling security, backup/recovery, performance tuning and access management.
• Support database migrations, system upgrades and platform modernization projects.
• Implement data quality controls, governance standards, audit logging and security best practices.
• Collaborate with business and technology teams to deliver scalable, reliable data solutions and improve DataOps efficiency.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL and Snowflake.
• Advanced SQL Server development and administration skills, especially on Azure VMs.
• Strong background in database migration, performance tuning, backup/recovery and security implementation.
• Excellent scripting abilities in SQL, Python and/or PowerShell.
• Experience working with structured and semi‑structured data formats such as CSV, JSON, XML, Parquet, MDF and BAK.
• Exceptional problem‑solving, troubleshooting and analytical capabilities.
