Senior Backend Developer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong AI expertise to join our growing team at Narwhal Labs. You will design, build, and maintain scalable backend services for our AI communications platform while providing technical leadership to junior developers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain robust Python‑based backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Optimize performance, reliability and security across all backend components.
• Mentor junior developers through code reviews, pair‑programming and coaching.
• Lead technical discussions, define coding standards and improve development processes.
• Contribute to system architecture planning and long‑term roadmap.
• Integrate AI/ML features, collaborate with data scientists and maintain intelligent services.
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies, libraries and tools as needed.

Required profile

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python.NET (C#) and PHP.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, authentication/authorisation and database design (SQL/NoSQL).
• Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Proven ability to mentor junior developers or lead small teams.
• Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks, large language models and data pipelines.
