Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Our client is a fast‑growing tech scale‑up with a £10m turnover and around 80 staff. Based at the North East headquarters, the Senior Backend Engineer will own the technical direction of a key backend platform domain, driving architecture, quality and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Define and enforce architecture, coding standards and service design for Go and TypeScript services on AWS.
• Build and evolve production‑grade services using Go, TypeScript, Lambda, ECS/EKS and RDS/Aurora.
• Make balanced architectural decisions and manage technical debt.
• Lead code reviews, testing practices and overall engineering quality.
• Mentor and coach junior backend engineers.
• Collaborate with engineering managers, product owners and platform leads on shared standards.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience as a Backend Engineer in a fast‑paced, technology‑driven business.
• Hands‑on experience delivering production‑grade services in Go.
• Solid background with TypeScript in a backend context (Node.js, shared libraries or tooling).
• Deep knowledge of core AWS services, especially Lambda, ECS/EKS and RDS/Aurora.
• Strong communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
