About the role
Join Diagnexia’s fully digitised pathology laboratory as a Senior Biomedical Scientist specialising in tissue dissection. You will lead high‑quality specimen processing, mentor junior staff and contribute to research and method development.
Key responsibilities
- Collect and handle samples, performing dissection of Category A‑C (and occasional D‑E) specimens.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff, lead internal audits and UKAS/ISO 15189 readiness activities.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, deliver in‑house training and competency assessments.
- Manage inventory of reagents and consumables to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Ensure QC/QA compliance, produce clear reports for pathologists and stakeholders, and support research initiatives.
Required profile
- Current HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist (maintained continuously).
- BSc in Biomedical Science (or equivalent) with at least 5 years post‑registration experience in a UKAS‑accredited histopathology lab.
- Strong dissection experience (Category A‑C; Category D‑E a plus) and competence in special stains, embedding and microtomy.
- Proven experience mentoring/supervising laboratory staff and preparing for UKAS audits.
Required skills
- Tissue dissection (Category A‑C, D‑E).
- Special stains, embedding, microtome operation.
- Laboratory equipment maintenance (e.g., AFOS bench, tissue processors).
- Method development, validation and optimisation.
- QC/QA procedures and regulatory compliance (UKAS, ISO 15189, GDPR).
