Senior Bookkeeper

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to join a purpose‑led accounting practice in Maidenhead. You will work within a dedicated pod, managing a portfolio of small‑business clients and delivering high‑quality bookkeeping services using modern cloud tools.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate Xero records for clients, including reconciliations, VAT returns, invoicing, credit control and month‑end closing.
• Lead client onboarding by setting up new bookkeeping customers on Xero and cloud accounting platforms, correcting historic errors.
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, communicating bookkeeping and VAT matters clearly and confidentially.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
• Run bookkeeping health checks using Xenon Connect and recommend corrective actions.
• Mentor junior colleagues, share best practices and contribute ideas to enhance internal processes and client experience.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a bookkeeper in an accounting practice.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive, positive and collaborative attitude.
• Organised, calm and able to manage competing priorities across a client portfolio.
• Leadership mindset focused on continuous improvement.
