Senior Children's Social Worker – Family Support

About the role

Our client, Rochdale Borough Council, is seeking a Senior Social Worker to join the Family Support and Protection team. The role involves direct work with children, young people and families facing complex challenges, requiring advanced practice skills and independent decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake direct work with children, young people and families on particularly complex cases.
• Produce high‑quality, independent court reports and specialist assessments.
• Lead and chair strategy discussions, Section 47 enquiries and other complex meetings as required.
• Develop and review policies, procedures and quality standards in line with the Children’s Social Care Performance Framework.
• Conduct case audits and reviews to ensure high standards of practice.
• Support, supervise and mentor staff, including ASYE trainees and practice placement students.
• Deputise for the Practice Manager in decision‑making and service direction.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in children’s social work, particularly complex protection cases.
• Proven ability to produce independent court reports and specialist assessments.
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
• Knowledge of statutory requirements and best‑practice frameworks.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
