Senior Commercial Underwriter

About the role

Lawes Consulting Group is partnering with a well‑established insurance business to recruit a Senior Commercial Underwriter for its NUH team. The role combines technical underwriting expertise with commercial acumen to meet income and profit targets while supporting junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior management to ensure effective case handling and resource allocation.
• Maintain oversight of product retention, pricing, and underwriting strategies, providing regular reports.
• Underwrite new business and renewals within defined risk appetite and authority limits.
• Handle referral cases above the authority of junior underwriters, adhering to company processes.
• Deliver training and technical guidance to less experienced underwriters.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with key brokers and directors.
• Provide market intelligence to the Underwriting Manager and contribute to technical knowledge sharing.
• Work closely with regional offices, claims, and survey teams, conducting regular case reviews.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience, preferably in commercial insurance.
• Proven track record in broker account development and relationship management.
• Experience working in matrix organisations and delivering results in a structured manner.
