Senior Cost Manager – Infrastructure & Build (Consultancy)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Manager to lead cost management on infrastructure and build projects for a fast‑growing construction consultancy in Birmingham. The role offers autonomy, client exposure and the chance to mentor junior staff while working across diverse sectors such as healthcare, education and regeneration.

Key responsibilities

• Lead cost management from feasibility through to final account.
• Prepare cost plans, estimates, budgets and cash‑flow forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
• Manage procurement strategies, tender documentation, evaluations and contract recommendations.
• Provide accurate cost reporting, forecasting and financial advice to clients and project teams.
• Administer contracts, handle change control, valuations and final accounts.
• Identify, monitor and mitigate project cost risks and opportunities.
• Collaborate with project managers, designers, contractors and other consultants to ensure successful delivery.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships as a trusted advisor.
• Mentor and support junior Cost Managers as the team expands.

Required profile

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline.
• Proven cost management or quantity surveying experience within a consultancy environment.
• Strong pre‑ and post‑contract experience on infrastructure projects (build experience desirable).
• Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts (JCT experience advantageous).
• Working towards or holding MRICS chartered status.
• Strong commercial awareness, analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Proactive, collaborative attitude with a desire to contribute to a growing consultancy.
