Senior Criminal Solicitor – Deputy Head (Leeds)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Criminal Solicitor to join our Leeds office as Deputy Head of the Criminal Department. This senior position offers a leadership opportunity within a nationally recognised firm, combining a personal caseload with team management responsibilities and hybrid working flexibility.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day operations of the crime team, allocating workloads and supervising colleagues.
• Maintain the highest standards of client care, regulatory compliance and Legal Aid Agency requirements.
• Mentor junior lawyers, support training initiatives and oversee file reviews and quality assurance processes.
• Provide strategic guidance on complex criminal matters and contribute to the department’s growth.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in criminal defence.
• Demonstrated supervisory or mentoring experience is highly desirable.
• Strong advocacy, organisational and case‑management abilities.
• Thorough understanding of SRA compliance and regulatory obligations.
• Collaborative, commercially aware with excellent communication skills.
