Senior Data Analyst – Content Protection & Discoverability

About the role

The Senior Data Analyst will turn Springer Nature’s traffic, usage and discovery data into actionable signals that maximise the value of our research content across the web. You will work at the intersection of content discoverability, protection and data intelligence, helping the organisation understand how content is found, accessed and potentially abused.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse how Springer Nature content is discovered across external channels such as search engines, scholarly discovery services, AI‑powered tools and aggregators.
• Develop and maintain a framework of discoverability metrics, signals and KPIs to evaluate distribution effectiveness and commercial impact.
• Detect and quantify scraping, bot activity and unauthorised content extraction using BigQuery, fingerprinting and behavioural analysis.
• Build and maintain detection signal portfolios, measure performance (coverage, precision, false‑positive rates) and support prioritisation of protection measures.
• Design dashboards and reports that communicate discoverability performance, protection effectiveness and emerging risks to product, platform and senior stakeholders.

Required profile

• Strong analytical and statistical capability with experience analysing web traffic, referral data and user journeys.
• Ability to connect multiple data sources and translate complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations for product and security teams.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
• Understanding of data security, governance and content protection challenges.

Required skills

• SQL (BigQuery) for large‑scale data sets.
• Python or other scripting languages for data analysis and automation.
• Dashboarding and visualisation tools such as Looker or Grafana.
• Data transformation tools like Dataform or dbt.
• Experience building classification or machine‑learning models for anomaly detection.
• Knowledge of data security, governance and entitlement systems.
