Senior Design Engineer

About the role

Airbus Belfast is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced aircraft structures and systems installations. You will own the end‑to‑end engineering lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through to production support and shop‑floor build.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure structural and systems designs meet certification standards and prepare engineering change proposals.
• Provide expert guidance on repairs for in‑service aircraft and collaborate with manufacturing to resolve production challenges.
• Direct and coach junior design engineers, lead trade studies and deliver robust technical outputs on schedule.
• Act as the authoritative internal design decision‑maker, prepare progress reports and represent engineering in technical meetings, customer discussions and supplier reviews.

Required profile

• HNC (or equivalent) in an engineering‑related subject with at least 3 years of relevant design engineering experience.
• Hands‑on experience with metallic and composite structures and/or systems installation design.
• Proficiency in CATIA V5 (or similar 3D CAD toolsets) and standard engineering IT software.
• Proven ability to analyse and solve technical problems while delivering tasks to time, cost and quality targets.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across site and group‑level teams.
