Senior Design Manager

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Design Manager to lead the engineering function on a major redevelopment project at the Royal Navy site in Plymouth. You will work closely with a talented multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative design solutions on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage design and engineering teams across disciplines such as Temporary Works, Digital Engineering, Concrete and Materials Management, and Survey and Monitoring.
• Develop and oversee Temporary Works and Contractor Design strategies, schedules and deliverables, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
• Coordinate design activities with project management and operational delivery teams for seamless integration.
• Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory and quality requirements, reviewing and approving design outputs and technical documentation.
• Manage resources, budgets and risks while mentoring team members to promote continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Professionally qualified senior manager with at least 10 years post‑qualification experience (or 15 years relevant experience) and a relevant degree (HNC, HND, BSc, MSc, BEng, MEng).
• Proven experience in design and engineering leadership, strong project management and stakeholder communication skills.
• Excellent understanding of design processes, procedures and standards, able to lead client‑focused presentations.
• Holder of a CSCS White PQP/AQP card and eligible for Government Security Check (SC) clearance.
