Senior Developer – Java & Python (Hybrid, £486/day)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Developer to join a public sector organisation operating in Edinburgh and Glasgow. This is a six‑month contract (outside IR35) with a hybrid working model, combining remote work and office attendance. You will help evolve a customer‑facing product portfolio while ensuring technical sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Enhance and support customer‑facing products based on feedback and roadmap priorities.
• Address architectural and technical debt to improve digital sustainability.
• Write clean, maintainable code and maintain high unit‑test coverage.
• Participate in team events, lead specialist tasks, and mentor colleagues.
• Collaborate with wider communities of practice to share knowledge.
• Ensure compliance with non‑functional requirements such as accessibility, security, performance and deployability.
• Troubleshoot development and production issues across AWS‑based services, ETL pipelines and databases.
• Apply collaborative development practices like pair programming, mobbing, code reviews and design workshops.
• Support disaster‑recovery assurance aiming for a 2‑hour RTO and zero RPO.

Required profile

• Significant commercial experience delivering high‑quality software in cross‑functional teams.
• Proven ability to design, gain consensus and implement technical solutions.
• Experience with human‑centred, inclusive design practices.
• Strong communication and mentoring skills.
