Senior Developer – Transport Tribe (Python/AWS)

About the role

We are seeking two Senior Developers to join the Transport Tribe at the Met Office. You will deliver regulatory and commercial weather data services for aviation, road, marine and rail sectors, working primarily with Python and AWS in a serverless environment. The role is full‑time (37 hours/week) and offers a hybrid working arrangement.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and lead development of related user stories.
• Maintain a holistic understanding of the system and share knowledge with the team.
• Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary stakeholders to define requirements.
• Coach and mentor junior colleagues.
• Identify and implement improvements for system robustness, resilience and stability.
• Participate in a 24/7/365 on‑call roster to support operational services.

Required profile

• Senior‑level software development experience.
• Proven ability to lead projects and mentor junior team members.
• Willingness to join an on‑call rotation.
• Strong communication skills for cross‑team collaboration.
