Senior Drainage Engineer

About the role

Brandon James Ltd, an employee‑owned consultancy with a five‑star reputation, is looking for a Senior Drainage Engineer to join its Bristol office. You will lead the design and delivery of drainage solutions across a variety of infrastructure and development projects, working closely with clients, statutory bodies and internal teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop drainage strategies and detailed designs for private and adoptable foul and surface‑water systems.
• Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategy reports in line with national and local planning policies.
• Produce hydraulic modelling and drainage designs using software such as Causeway Flow.
• Create technical drawings and specifications.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, water companies and other stakeholders to secure technical approvals (S104, S106, S185, SAB, LLFA, etc.).
• Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technicians.
• Prepare fee proposals, monitor budgets and deadlines.
• Attend design team and site meetings, providing technical support during construction.
• Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and technical development.

Required profile

• Civil engineering qualification (BEng, MEng, HNC, HND) or equivalent.
• Chartered status or working towards chartership.
• Minimum six years’ experience in drainage design for development infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of SuDS, flood risk, building regulations, DCG and national planning policy.
