Senior EC&I Design Engineer

About the role

We are recruiting a Senior EC&I Design Engineer for an established engineering business that delivers advanced process solutions to highly regulated sectors such as pharmaceutical and healthcare. The role requires a seasoned EC&I professional who can take technical ownership of projects, mentor junior staff and work across the full project lifecycle in safety-critical environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead EC&I design activities across multiple projects.
• Produce and review Functional Design Specifications, P&IDs, electrical schematics and related documentation.
• Support projects through FEED, detailed design, FAT/SAT and delivery stages.
• Drive standardisation and continuous improvement of designs and processes.
• Participate in value-engineering initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Provide technical expertise to engineering, field and sales teams.
• Ensure designs meet quality, safety and regulatory requirements during design reviews.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Mentor and support junior engineers.
• Contribute to the development of processes and systems across the wider business.

Required profile

• OND/HND/Degree in Electrical, Controls or Instrumentation Engineering.
• Proven EC&I design experience in a project environment, including FEED and detailed design.
• Strong background producing EC&I documentation such as FDS, P&IDs, electrical schematics and technical drawings.
• AutoCAD proficiency for electrical and process drawings.
• Knowledge of ATEX and hazardous-area requirements.
• Understanding of Health & Safety legislation and design risk principles.
• Experience working in regulated or safety-critical sectors.
• Senior-level capability with experience mentoring or supporting less experienced engineers.
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects or ambition to move into team-leadership.
