Senior Ecologist – Environmental Consultancy

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Ecologist to join a forward‑thinking environmental consultancy operating across the South East. You will work on renewable energy, housing and infrastructure projects, delivering high‑quality ecological advice and supporting planning applications.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver ecological surveys, including Phase 1 Habitat Surveys and protected species surveys.
• Prepare Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) reports and mitigation strategies.
• Liaise with clients such as planners, councils and private developers.
• Conduct occasional bat and bird surveys, including night work and overnight field trips.
• Support planning applications and provide expert advice on habitat management.

Required profile

• Qualified ecologist with experience on planning‑led projects.
• Proven ability to produce detailed ecological reports and assessments.
• Willingness to develop specialist licences and take ownership of work.
• Comfortable balancing office and field duties within a consultancy environment.

Required skills

• Ecological survey techniques (Phase 1 Habitat, bat, bird, protected species).
• Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) preparation.
• Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) reporting.
• Mitigation strategy development.
