Senior Ecologist – Lead Ecological Projects

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Ecologist to lead ecological work on a diverse portfolio of projects, from local conservation initiatives to nationally significant infrastructure schemes. The role offers autonomy, client interaction and the chance to influence environmental outcomes from feasibility through to delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead ecological assessments, habitat surveys and impact studies.
• Design and oversee protected‑species surveys and ecological monitoring programmes.
• Produce high‑quality reports, impact assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Advise clients on ecological risks, constraints and opportunities.
• Mentor and support junior ecologists.
• Ensure projects comply with wildlife legislation, planning policy and best‑practice standards.

Required profile

• Consultancy experience with increasing project responsibility.
• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or related discipline (post‑graduate advantageous).
• Strong field‑survey capability and confidence in report writing.
• Solid knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policy.
• Excellent communication skills and commercial awareness.
