Senior Ecologist – Renewable Energy Projects

About the role

Origin Enterprises is seeking a Senior or Principal Ecologist to lead ecological work on a variety of projects, with a strong focus on renewable energy schemes such as wind farms. You will work within a collaborative, purpose‑driven team delivering high‑quality, integrated environmental solutions across the UK and Ireland.

Key responsibilities

• Lead ecological projects, prepare detailed reports and conduct comprehensive ecological assessments.
• Focus on renewable energy schemes, particularly onshore wind, while also supporting conventional development projects.
• Engage with clients remotely, providing clear advice and robust documentation.
• Liaise with planning authorities, statutory agencies and stakeholders to secure project approvals.
• Supervise junior ecologists and coordinate sub‑consultants.

Required profile

• Strong experience in desk‑based project management, reporting and ecological assessments.
• Proven experience working on renewable wind projects.
• Experience mentoring junior staff and managing small teams.
• Clear understanding of UK‑wide environmental/ecological policy and legislation.
• Ability to produce concise technical reports, including PEAs, EIAs and technical appendices.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive, diligent work ethic.
• Previous consultancy experience with a relevant degree; CIEEM membership and a full clean driver’s licence are preferred.
