Senior Electrical Engineer – High Voltage (HV)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with a strong background in high‑voltage (HV) design and power distribution. The role is based in Hemel Hempstead and involves delivering HV projects for industrial, commercial, or utility clients from concept through to commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop HV electrical systems, including substations, switchgear, transformers and distribution networks.
• Create schematics, single‑line diagrams and technical documentation in line with BS7671, IEC standards and DNO requirements.
• Perform power system studies, load calculations, cable sizing and protection coordination.
• Support site surveys, FAT/SAT activities, commissioning and testing of electrical installations.
• Collaborate with project managers, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Provide technical support during installation and construction phases and liaise with suppliers and stakeholders.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement and innovation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience as a Senior Electrical Engineer, Electrical Design Engineer or similar.
• Demonstrated experience with HV systems (typically 11 kV–132 kV).
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, substations, switchgear, transformers and protection systems.
• Familiarity with industry‑standard design software and power system analysis tools.
