Senior Embedded Engineer – Hybrid (Southampton)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Embedded Engineer to join a leading manufacturing firm near Southampton. The role focuses on designing, developing, testing and maintaining specialised embedded computer systems for application‑specific products. You will work in a hybrid environment, collaborating with cross‑functional engineering teams to deliver reliable and efficient solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and develop the overall architecture of embedded systems with emphasis on performance, scalability and power efficiency.
• Clarify and negotiate firmware, mechanical and electronic hardware requirements with product management, sales and other stakeholders.
• Integrate software and hardware components, ensuring seamless operation.
• Create and execute comprehensive test plans to validate system functionality and reliability.
• Collaborate with software, mechanical and electrical engineers to align requirements and integrate solutions.
• Produce and maintain detailed documentation of system design and functionality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• Proven experience in embedded systems development.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication and critical‑thinking abilities.

Required skills

• Programming in C and C++.
• Modern operating‑system coding techniques.
• Knowledge of IP protocols and hardware interfaces.
• Proficiency with PCB design tools and electronic design automation (EDA) software.
• Experience using debugging tools and techniques for embedded systems.
