Senior Employee Relations Manager (Hybrid, Cambridge)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Employee Relations Manager to join a leading public‑sector organisation in Cambridge. Working on a hybrid basis, you will support senior leaders with complex employee relations issues while acting as deputy to the Head of Employee Relations.

Key responsibilities

• Allocate and oversee casework across disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance matters.
• Provide specialist advice to senior managers on employment legislation and terms & conditions.
• Line‑manage and develop a team of Employee Relations Advisors.
• Represent management at appeals panels, tribunals and other adjudication forums.
• Lead policy development, draft and review HR procedures, and deliver corporate and bespoke training programmes.
• Engage with trade unions and staff‑side representatives on consultation and negotiation matters.

Required profile

• Proven experience handling complex employee relations cases in a public‑sector or similar environment.
• Demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders on legal and policy implications.
• Experience line‑managing an HR or ER advisory team.
• Strong track record of presenting cases at tribunals and appeals panels.
• Exposure to workforce improvement initiatives such as coaching, talent management and succession planning.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices.
• Effective negotiation and consultation skills with trade unions.
• Ability to design and deliver training programmes.
• Competence in drafting and reviewing HR policies and procedures.
