Senior Engineer – Transport Development Control

About the role

Our client, South Gloucestershire Council, is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead Transport Development Control within its Place Shaping team. You will work on transport planning for new developments, ensuring alignment with local and national policies while promoting sustainable travel solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct technical reviews of transport aspects in planning applications and verify compliance with policy and guidance.
• Advise on sustainable travel infrastructure and encourage low‑carbon travel choices.
• Negotiate developer agreements to deliver effective transport provisions for key district facilities.
• Present transport expertise at planning committees, appeals and public inquiries.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to integrate transport considerations throughout the planning process.

Required profile

• Significant experience in transportation consultancy or a related engineering field.
• Relevant professional qualification (e.g., BSc Engineering) or equivalent experience.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build relationships.
• Excellent analytical and numeracy abilities for interpreting complex data.
