Senior Financial Accountant – 6‑month Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

This 6‑month fixed‑term position offers a qualified accountant the chance to lead technical accounting work within a large, complex finance function. Reporting to the senior finance team, you will own the production of statutory, internal and stakeholder financial returns while acting as the technical lead on group accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain ledger integrity, perform reconciliations and controls in partnership with systems accountants and the Shared Service Centre.
• Line‑manage a Financial Accountant and other team members.
• Coordinate the statutory and group year‑end process and lead the relationship with external auditors.
• Oversee the Financial Reporting Group Technical function.
• Manage the relationship with the external pensions actuary and deliver statutory pension disclosures.
• Maintain the Delegated Financial Authority matrix.
• Manage balance‑sheet budgeting and forecasting, working closely with FP&A.
• Support the delivery of P11Ds, PSAs, VAT and Corporation Tax returns.
• Review and develop accounting policies in line with best practice and stakeholder requirements.
• Identify control weaknesses and drive efficiency improvements.
• Coach and develop the wider finance team.

Required profile

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, CA, ACCA or CIMA) with a university degree.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge.
• Proven experience managing and leading a high‑performing finance team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Logical, methodical and commercially‑minded approach.
