Senior Financial Accountant – Hybrid (Derby)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance team in Derby. The role will lead balance‑sheet reconciliations, manage VAT and tax reporting, and support month‑end, forecasting and budgeting processes. You will work closely with the Finance Director and Financial Controller in a hybrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the daily finance operation for the Financial Accounting team, supporting the Finance Director and Financial Controller.
• Oversee reconciliation, submission and payment of quarterly VAT returns, corporation tax calculations and other HMRC reporting requirements.
• Provide ad‑hoc advice on VAT and HMRC matters.
• Ensure key control accounts on the balance sheet are regularly reconciled.
• Take a leading role in the annual year‑end audit, liaising with the audit team and coordinating internal workload.
• Oversee the production of financial forecasts and budgets for assigned areas in line with timetables.

Required profile

• ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualified, or equivalent experience.
• Strong Excel and financial systems skills; SAP experience is advantageous.
• Experience in a project‑based, professional services or consultancy environment is desirable.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.
• Highly organized, detail‑oriented and able to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced setting.
• Professional, discreet and committed to confidentiality.
• Proactive in keeping up to date with industry developments and legislation.
• Previous experience in a similar finance role is beneficial.
• Flexible and adaptable with a willingness to support changing business needs.
