Senior GC-MS Analytical Chemist

About the role

Our client, a specialist contract testing company serving the agro‑chemical sector, is seeking a Senior Analytical Chemist to join their inorganic analysis team in Bedford. The role offers a permanent, full‑time position in a fast‑paced, ISO‑17025 accredited laboratory.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse water, liquid waste and food samples for environmental, agro‑chemical and waste clients.
• Develop and run GC‑MS, GC‑QQQ and GC‑TOF methods, including validation.
• Manage multiple projects, ensuring timelines and workload balance.
• Perform sample preparation, stock, reagent and solution preparation.
• Maintain laboratory housekeeping and routine equipment maintenance.
• Train new staff on analytical processes.
• Troubleshoot and service laboratory instrumentation.

Required profile

• Degree in Chemistry or related discipline (or equivalent accredited lab experience).
• Several years of experience in a UKAS/ISO‑17025/ISO‑9001 accredited testing laboratory.
• Proven expertise with GC‑MS, method development and validation.
• Ability to thrive in a high‑throughput environment.
• Strong teamwork and independent working skills.
• Indefinite right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
