Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer

About the role

Robert Bird Group, part of the Surbana Jurong network, is seeking a Senior Geo‑Environmental Engineer to lead contaminated‑land and geo‑environmental services on a variety of development and infrastructure projects in London.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver Phase 1 Desk Studies, Preliminary Risk Assessments and Phase 2 ground investigations.
• Develop and refine Conceptual Site Models using source‑pathway‑receptor frameworks.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments (CLEA, GQRA, DQRA) and produce clear interpretative reports.
• Design, specify and manage intrusive investigations, supervising contractors as required.
• Interpret soil, groundwater and ground‑gas data and contribute to remediation option appraisals and verification reporting.
• Manage multiple geo‑environmental commissions, ensuring delivery on schedule, budget and quality.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs (geotechnical, structural, sustainability) and support fee proposals, scope development and change control.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients throughout planning, risk management and delivery stages.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in contaminated‑land and geo‑environmental engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior staff.
• Strong client‑engagement and commercial awareness.
• Excellent communication skills for reporting and advisory roles.
