Senior Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Systems Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) Systems Engineer you will lead the design and verification of the GNC subsystem – including computer‑vision based navigation – for Astroscale’s rendezvous and proximity operations missions. You will work closely with cross‑disciplinary teams to integrate algorithms and hardware into the satellite bus and protect the company’s core intellectual property.

Key responsibilities

• Develop GNC requirements, fault detection, isolation and recovery (FDIR) strategies and verification plans for RPO missions.
• Integrate GNC and computer‑vision algorithms with dedicated hardware and ensure system‑level compatibility.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to define subsystem performance and support overall mission design.
• Plan and execute verification and test campaigns for the GNC subsystem.
• Drive subsystem and mission review gates, providing technical input and status updates.
• Conduct research on state‑of‑the‑art GNC hardware and algorithms, performing trade‑off analyses.
• Support selection, integration and testing of GNC hardware for rendezvous operations.
• Contribute to the development of the GNC software architecture and flight‑software implementation.
• Interact with customers and suppliers to capture constraints and present technical solutions.
• Provide analysis and support for on‑orbit operations of Astroscale spacecraft.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in aerospace engineering or a related engineering/science discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience in guidance, navigation and control engineering.
• Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and deliver results in a commercial environment.

Required skills

• Matlab and Simulink development (intermediate level or higher).
• Design and implementation of control laws and navigation algorithms for RPO missions.
• Development and integration of computer‑vision algorithms for spacecraft navigation.
• GNC hardware integration, testing and verification.
• Translation of algorithms into operational flight software.
• Knowledge of GNC subsystem architecture and FDIR concepts.
