Senior HR / ER Advisor

About the role

We are seeking a Senior HR / Employee Relations Advisor to deliver first‑class HR services for a professional services firm in Southampton. You will act as the internal specialist on UK employment law, providing commercial, risk‑based advice and supporting senior stakeholders across a wide range of ER matters.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor legislative changes and case law, keeping the business up‑to‑date on UK employment law.
• Review, update and draft HR policies to ensure legal compliance and best practice.
• Lead and manage ER cases including disciplinary, grievance, performance, sickness absence, flexible working and capability matters.
• Oversee onboarding, probation and the induction programme, providing guidance to managers and new hires.
• Provide expert, risk‑based advice ensuring decisions are legally compliant and aligned with policy.
• Prepare and review case documentation, investigation reports and outcome letters.
• Drive early issue resolution through proactive interventions and maintain accurate case records.
• Guide employees on wellbeing and ER matters, signposting to appropriate resources.
• Manage the leaver process, conduct exit interviews and analyse feedback for improvement.
• Coordinate the trainee qualification journey and ensure timely delivery of mandatory and professional training.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of UK employment law and recent case developments.
• Proven experience handling complex employee‑relations cases.
• Strong judgement and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail‑oriented with strong organisational abilities.
