Senior Hub Developer

About the role

Ember is expanding its network of electric‑vehicle charging hubs across the UK. The Senior Hub Developer will own the end‑to‑end delivery of new hub sites – from site identification and acquisition through planning, construction and commissioning – while also supporting the optimisation of existing hubs.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and evaluate potential hub locations by scouting industrial estates, brownfield sites and engaging with landlords, agents and local authorities.
• Lead lease negotiations, planning applications and secure grid connections in partnership with network operators and utilities.
• Manage design, procurement, installation and commissioning of ultra‑fast chargers, working closely with architects, engineers and suppliers.
• Oversee on‑site construction activities, conduct inspections and resolve practical issues such as drainage or cabling placement.
• Continuously monitor and improve operational performance of live hubs, applying lessons learned to future projects.

Required profile

• Curious and quick to learn, comfortable navigating new technical specifications, legal terms and planning processes.
• Engineering mindset, eager to understand concrete reinforcement, three‑phase distribution and substation transformers.
• First‑principles thinker who breaks problems down to fundamentals and collaborates with experts rather than outsourcing thinking.
• Commercially astute, able to assess when to fight for a lease term or redesign around constraints.
• Highly organised with a pipeline of projects, maintaining inbox zero and meeting multiple timelines.
• Comfortable using AI tools for research, drafting documents and accelerating learning.
• Hands‑on attitude, willing to meet landlords, electricians and inspect physical site conditions.
