Senior Human Factors Engineer

About the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Human Factors Engineer to join its Nuclear, Defence and Civil division within the Energy unit. The role involves applying human‑centred engineering to technically challenging, regulated projects across the UK nuclear and defence sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Provide Human Factors support across a portfolio of nuclear, defence and civil projects.
• Serve as the primary contact for Human Factors professionals, offering guidance on internal processes and client requirements.
• Advise multidisciplinary teams on the application of Human Factors tools and techniques.
• Identify new business opportunities and contribute to bid activities, particularly in nuclear and defence.
• Facilitate cross‑discipline collaboration to embed Human Factors into division processes.
• Develop and implement new Human Factors processes and standards across the business.

Required profile

• Level 6 or above qualification in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience working on nuclear, defence or civil engineering projects in a highly regulated environment.
• Strong understanding of Human Factors principles and their practical application.
• Excellent communication skills to influence and support multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Human Factors analysis and ergonomic assessment techniques.
• Application of Human Factors tools (e.g., task analysis, usability testing, risk assessment).
• Knowledge of nuclear and defence sector standards and regulations.
