Senior In-House Legal Counsel

About the role

Deriv is hiring a Senior In-house Legal Counsel in London to minimise legal risk across its fintech operations. The role covers contracts from draft to termination, litigation with novel fintech questions, and the design of legal processes that remove manual work. It sits alongside the company's work to build AI tools for legal work, and involves making decisions that shape product launches, partnerships and business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and manage contracts, make calls on acceptable risk and own high-risk matters where precedent is unclear
• Assess exposure, decide litigation strategy and manage external counsel on novel fintech legal questions
• Create policies for contract governance and regulatory compliance, updated proactively as regulations evolve
• Advise on cross-border matters including GDPR and other data privacy frameworks, regulatory compliance and licensing across jurisdictions
• Partner with engineers to build AI tools for contract drafting, legal research and compliance tracking
• Design processes that eliminate repetitive work and train teams on legal boundaries
• Collaborate with business, compliance, risk and product stakeholders to deliver commercially viable outcomes

Required profile

• Qualified legal professional with 6+ years in corporate legal, owning complex matters rather than just reviewing them
• Understanding of fintech law and how regulations interact with fast-moving technology
• Comfortable with AI and automation, using AI tools now or eager to learn them
• Multi-jurisdictional experience advising global organisations; exposure to GDPR or equivalent is desirable
• Strong English communication and stakeholder management, able to influence senior decision-makers
