Senior Java & Kotlin Backend Engineer – Contract

About the role

We are partnering with a leading technology organisation to find a Senior Java & Kotlin Backend Engineer for an initial two‑month contract. The role is based in London with a hybrid model requiring office attendance each Wednesday. You will join a modern engineering team building cloud‑native microservices for new, greenfield projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services using Java and Kotlin.
• Build and enhance RESTful APIs within a microservices architecture.
• Implement secure, scalable, high‑performance applications.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers and technical stakeholders to deliver new features.
• Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
• Improve system reliability, performance and scalability.
• Work with cloud‑native technologies and modern deployment practices.
• Support production systems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong commercial experience with Java and Kotlin.
• Proven experience developing applications with Spring Boot.
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture and REST API design.
• Commercial experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and AWS cloud services.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker and containerised applications.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
