Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Cambridge (Hybrid)

About the role

Zenovo is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Cambridge team, working on globally recognised consumer products. The role involves taking concepts through to manufacturing, collaborating with cross‑functional teams and mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new product concepts and prototypes with cross‑functional engineering teams.
• Create practical, manufacturable designs and produce 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, including injection moulding, die casting, extrusion and sheet‑metal fabrication.
• Perform engineering analysis, testing and design validation, applying DFM/DFA principles and managing BOMs.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners throughout development and support tooling, production builds and product launches.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to project delivery as required.

Required profile

• Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of product design and development experience, preferably with electrical or electro‑mechanical consumer products.
• Proven ability to take products from concept through to manufacture.
• Experience leading or mentoring junior engineers.

Required skills

• Strong 3D CAD skills, including surfacing and solid modelling.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks; experience with PTC Creo and Windchill PDM is desirable.
• Knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and BOM management.
• Design expertise for injection moulding, die casting, extrusion and sheet‑metal fabrication.
• Engineering analysis, testing and design validation capabilities.
