Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Edinburgh

About the role

We are seeking a senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our product development team in Edinburgh. The role involves leading complex mechanical design projects, shaping technical direction and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams in a precision‑focused environment.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to concept development, system‑level design and product release.
• Translate technical requirements into detailed design solutions.
• Produce and review engineering drawings, documentation and product data.
• Support prototype development, testing, materials selection and product verification.
• Manage smaller projects and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Review technical documentation and ensure compliance with standards.
• Use analysis, modelling and experimental data to inform design decisions.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge.
• Contribute ideas for new technologies and product improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical design of multi‑component systems in a complex engineering environment.
• Strong record of concept development, system‑level design, prototyping and delivery.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technically challenging projects and guide less senior engineers.
• Experience with regulated, high‑specification or precision engineering environments is a plus.
