Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Veolia is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead innovative mechanical solutions across water and wastewater sites in London and Southern England. You will oversee a team of engineers and fitters, ensuring safe, efficient maintenance and asset replacement while supporting the company’s sustainability goals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate mechanical engineers/fitters across multiple sites.
• Deliver planned and reactive maintenance on dewatering and related equipment.
• Perform complex repairs, modifications, overhauls, and asset replacements (pumps, pipework, valves, ancillaries).
• Supervise on‑site employees and subcontractors, ensuring safety and schedule adherence.
• Act as primary on‑site contact for customers and coordinate activities with site teams.
• Maintain compliance with CDM requirements, RAMS, permits, safety documentation, test reports, and installation certificates.
• Provide standby cover, overtime, and flexible travel as needed.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 or recognised apprenticeship in mechanical engineering maintenance.
• Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel to Southern England sites.
• 5+ years’ experience in an industrial environment with proven mechanical installation, maintenance, and service capability.
• Experience leading teams and supervising subcontractors on‑site.
• Essential safety competencies: COMPEX, SSSTS, Confined Space, First Aid, IOSH.
