Senior Microsoft 365 Security Engineer

About the role

We are supporting a prestigious scientific research organisation that relies on a large Microsoft 365 ecosystem to protect sensitive data and enable collaboration. As a Senior Microsoft 365 Security Engineer you will lead the design, implementation and ongoing hardening of this environment.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and secure a sophisticated Microsoft 365 estate across Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA, PIM, Microsoft Defender and Purview.
• Own identity protection, access governance, cloud threat defence and compliance initiatives.
• Diagnose complex security issues, conduct investigations, remediate threats and maintain robust policies.
• Collaborate with cyber‑security, infrastructure, networking and service‑delivery teams to ensure secure rollout of new services.
• Document security standards and provide clear guidance to stakeholders at all levels.

Required profile

• Extensive hands‑on experience securing Microsoft 365 environments.
• Deep knowledge of identity protection, access control, threat detection and compliance.
• Proven ability to work in complex or hybrid environments and configure services such as Conditional Access, MFA, PIM, Defender and Purview.
• Strong investigative and problem‑solving skills with the confidence to operate autonomously.

What we offer

• £500 per day (Inside IR35)
• Hybrid working – 2 days onsite in Oxford, 3 days remote
• 6‑month contract with potential extension to 12 months or beyond
